Spinning a Yarn
A few weeks ago T and I met up with a couple of friends who have a one-year-old little girl, and they gave us a pile of books to help us prepare for what lies ahead (as much as you can ever really be prepared!)
I had a couple of books already, and I’m slowly working my way through the pile. Some of the advice in there seems like ‘common-sense’, but it’s reassuring to have it in black and white to refer to when I’m confused. And the anecdotal books are both funny and encouraging, as they prove that everyone else is kind of just making this all up as they go along as well!
I’m saving the bulk of the reading for when I go on Maternity Leave (not long left now!) I put in for my Mat Leave at the beginning of October, and I'm planning on starting at the end of December. I felt as though that was super early at the time, but as I'm in a busy retail environment, the first two weeks of January are some of our busiest and I don't think I'd cope very well. I'm already feeling shattered at the end of a shift, and it's not even particularly hectic at the moment...
I’m also storing up a load of wool for crocheting – anything to keep me occupied while I’m not working! The problem with having lots of yarn in the house, though, is that I’m already whipping through the stash! I'm currently obsessed with making little cardigans and matching hats - at this rate Spud will have a set in multiple rainbows of different colours! But there's nothing wrong with that.
Which books did you read during pregnancy? Were any particularly useful? And did you take up any hobbies during your Maternity Leave?
