Friendmas
Back in August T and I went on a holiday to Latvia; partly for a mini-break but mostly for the wedding of two of our lovely friends – and this weekend we all met up for Christmas dinner at a cosy pub restaurant on a wild and windy night.
We did a Secret Santa, and pulled crackers, and ate lovely food (though the only blip was when I was brought the alcoholic version of the drink I was having and I didn’t realise until I’d had half of it! I’m sure it’s not a huge issue as I was eating as well, and only had less than half of the drink, but I’m still annoyed at the oversight on both mine and the waitress’s behalf. In their defence they were very apologetic and we obviously weren’t charged for the replacement!)
As I noted during my work Christmas do, it’s funny being the sober one, and it’s something that I’m not really used to. I did find myself getting tired much earlier than I usually would without the sugar in alcohol, but at the same time I appreciated the conversation much more – and once or twice I actually laughed until I was crying!
Have you had many Christmas parties this year? Do you enjoy them more without drinking or do you prefer a little tipple at this time of year?
