Making It Up
As I wrote the other week, T and I sorted out Spud’s pram and car seat with help from a charming chap from Joie at the Olympia Baby Show. Well, it arrived incredibly quickly, and therefore, as with the cot that my mum bought for Spud, sat in our hallway for quite a while before T and I finally got around to opening the box.
I think it’s a sign of a strong partnership that, in building the pram and the cot with the world’s vaguest instructions as our guide, we didn’t murder each other. We barely even bickered – honestly! And after a remarkably short space of time we had a pram set up, played with, collapsed and stored out of the way; and a cot bed build and placed in our bedroom. In our defence the cot took so long for us to get around to building because we were waiting for the mosquito net to arrive – not because we have a pest problem, but because we have a couple of very inquisitive dick-cats who would immediately claim the bed for their own if we didn’t have a barrier in the way, so it’s more of a cat-cover than a mozzie-net.
I’ve mentioned previously that T and I are currently living in a one-bedroom flat, so it helps that current baby sleeping guidelines recommend that bubba shares their parents’ room for at least the first couple of months, as Spud has no other option!
Having the cot placed next to our bed was a bit of a moment, as I sat and stared at it for a while, trying to get my head around the fact that in a few short months there will be an actual baby in that actual cot that is actually sat in our bedroom.
Did you have any “hit-home” moments like this?
