Gee Pee
Yesterday I had my Twenty-Five week appointment with a GP, and Spud and I are, apparently, model patients!
Spud is in a good position, active and alert, and her heartbeat is strong. Every time I hear that news it’s such a relief! She has been particularly jiggy the past couple of weeks, to the point that I can often spend half an hour or so lying on the sofa actually watching her move around. It’s super weird, but also kind of cool…
As I’ve noted previously, during pregnancy, things that would usually be a potential cause for medical concern seem to be brushed aside with barely a flicker of interest. Case in point, my back and rib pain, which has reached the stage where I’m spending my evenings with a hot water bottle on my back and a microwavable heat pack on my ribs – I feel like a toasted sandwich!
The GP did check my lungs and ribs to make sure I had no breathing difficulties or underlying issues, but when I got the all clear she kind of just shrugged and told me it was probably something I was just going to have to deal with for the time being! She did suggest visit an osteopath to see if there were any alignment issues, but that there was nothing that she could immediately pinpoint, and that there was no point in an NHS referral now, as, by the time an appointment actually came through, it would probably be after my due date!
I’ve had problems with my back, hips, and knees for years, so I was anticipating issues during pregnancy, but it truly does suck. I’ve tried massage, yoga, stretching, baths, rest, exercise, heat, and ice, and everything works while I’m doing it, but as soon as I stop the discomfort returns.
Does anyone have any advice for dealing with back and rib pain during pregnancy?
