Mid-Way-Wife
It’s very nearly half-way through this pregnancy, which feels like it’s already lasted twenty years.
However, we met our Midwife this morning (and I think this one is our actual Midwife) so I’ve been reset to a somewhat even keel.
T and I spent about half an hour in the appointment; as with the first one she took my blood pressure, tested my pee, and did another lung-function test. We were asked questions about my general health and discussed that migraine I had last week so she’s cleared me to take paracetamol which is a huge relief, and chatted about those first few flutters that I might, maybe, perhaps be feeling now.
Also, she let us listen to Spud’s heartbeat and it was clear, strong, and very much there! We did ask whether we could have a listen and she explained that they don’t often do that at this stage of a pregnancy any more because, as I mentioned in my previous blog, it can cause unnecessary tension if the beat can’t be found, for whatever reason, and as nothing would be done until the twenty-week scan, it might just lead to several weeks of anxiety. However, because we'd asked (and she said that T and I were adorable, so maybe that had something to do with it?!) she did have a quick scan with the doppler and found the heartbeat instantly! As with the scan, Spud just can't wait to be found!
I also mentioned that I’ve been getting sharp pains in my hips and knees (I’ll probably write more on this in another blog) so she advised me to read up on SPD and recommended some exercises that can apparently also be found somewhere on the NHS website. While I’m not certain that the pain is SPD (I think it’s related to past issues and physiology) I’ll certainly educate myself on the condition and the exercises can’t hurt - most of them are yoga based, and I try and do some of that every day.
We’ve been given our appointments for the rest of the pregnancy, and it looks very short written down, even though it still feels like a long way until the finish line.
Have you had experience with SPD or other pregnancy conditions?
