Baking Time

We met Spud yesterday…

I say ‘met’ – we had our first scan. I’m still a little bit shell-shocked, to be honest, and I don’t quite know how I feel now!

The lovely sonographer asked me to lie down on the bed and lift my shirt over my stomach – he then gave me some paper towels to tuck around the waistband of my trousers, and said “tuck that in so we don’t get any gel on your clothes, and there’s your baby”… and holy shit, it was right there on the screen.

It was so clear to see – Spud’s going to be crap at hide-and-seek.

As I said, I’m still a little bit overwhelmed so this is more of a rambling, word-association post rather than a blog (because my blogs are usually so well structured).

Spud was right there, and moving like a dancer – at one point kicking out and doing a little jump! The sonographer pointed out two arms, two legs, hands and feet all present and correct. The brain was formed, and the heart was beating, and it was pretty insane to be honest. We kept expecting a candid-camera crew to pop out from under the bed or something!

I think we were there for about ten-fifteen minutes in total, just staring at this fuzzy grey blob on the screen as it wriggled about like… well, like a little human. The sonographer told us that, actually we got the dates ever so slightly squiffy, and I’m actually at Thirteen Weeks!

And T may or may not have had a little tear in his eye…

We got two pictures from the scan, and we keep just staring at them. Neither of us can quite believe that this little thing is really real.

How did you react the first time you saw your Spud on the screen?
