Booking Bump
This morning T and I went and actually met the Midwife. I mean, we met one last week, but we were assured that this week we’d have both our Booking Appointment, and meet our permanent Midwife.
Well, we had the appointment with a lovely lady, who was sorry but the two Midwives who would be looking after us were both off today. But we had the appointment, and that’s the main thing.
Everything was surprisingly normal: bloodwork, pee, medical history. All good. Even my blood pressure, which is notoriously low (my GP once had to use the kids' cuff as he couldn’t get a reading with the adult one!) was within normal realms. Highly suspicious…
In exceptionally good news, I did a breath test thing, and my lung-function is that of a non-smoker, which is brilliant considering I was a pack-a-day smoker up until the 17th June! I've not had one cigarette since taking the test, and no one's dead yet, so that's a win!
So it all appears to be progressing well at this stage. The Midwife took lots of notes, questioned T and I on pretty much every sniffle or grazed knee we’d had since the age of twelve, and gave us even more bits of paper to read through. Whoever said kids didn’t come with a handbook? I’ve already got half a dozen!
My only niggle was that, when I was weighed and measured, I found out that I’m an inch shorter and half a kilogram heavier than I thought I was, most of that half-kilo is probably just my boobs which have gone up two whole cup sizes since June!
It took about an hour, all told, and we were given plenty of space to ask questions. The Midwife was great and explained everything clearly, talked us through what would happen next, and generally made us feel really comfortable.
Our next meeting is the Twelve-Week appointment, which is a big one, I think… two and a half weeks to wait!
